where i grew up

we called it pop. not soda.
we shopped at fred meyer. there was no target.
we put our clothes on lay-a-way before the start of a new school year.
we lived on land. one house was on 2 acres.
we wore over sized t-shirts. even in school pictures. classy.
we went to rec-swim with friends on a saturday afternoon. we could spend all day in that pool.
we played dress up in our mom's old clothes and red high heels.
we went to the beach. but it wasn't to get a tan.
for a long time we had to drive at least an hour to get to a mall.
we picked blackberries, salmon berries and huckleberries in the woods by our house.
we pretended that our big wheel trikes were ice cream makers.
we danced and sang along with roy orbison. especially when we had company.
we went for walks on the beach collecting agates. we did this a lot.
we surfed.
we boogie boarded down the snowy hills of the golf course.
we rode horses on the beach.
we played hot lava monster.
we built forts. inside and out.
we danced the king and i dance...ok, we still do that :)
we explored the tide pools.
we played princess leah and princess buttercup with our dad, who would wear pink tights on his head for hair. whatta guy.
we read where's waldo.
we picked our own strawberries.
we took our neighbors and friends food when they were sick.
we went on daddy daughter lunch dates down-town.
we played in laundry chutes.
we went roller skating. this was a big deal for birthday parties.
we had water balloon fights.
we went on the bumper boats.
we were on a jump rope team. and we rocked.
isn't it fun to think about all the cool stuff you did growing up? even though it was super hard at the time to move so much, it is pretty awesome to remember all the cool stuff we did. i could go on. but, this post would be 43 pages long.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I too miss some of the simpleness of it all. Hot Lava at regatta. Adventures on the dirt road with Tom and Tina chasing gravel. Hearing giant surf echo up Salmon river 10 miles. Gold beach...etc.
Love you guys, Dad
